Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides low-income seniors with vouchers that can be exchanged for fruits and vegetables at farmers' markets, roadside stands, and community-supported agriculture programs. Wholesome Wave Georgia is partnered with the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) to offer these vouchers at select Georgia Fresh for Less markets in the Atlanta metro region. Each senior receives two vouchers worth $10, doubled to $40 worth of fruits and vegetables.

Wholesome Wave Georgia partners, that are authorized to accept SFMNP, received $8,780 worth of SFMNP and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) vouchers in 2017. By doubling these vouchers, they distributed $17,560 worth of fresh, healthy food to SFMNP and WIC recipients.

For information to determine participant eligibility for SFMNP, contact the Atlanta Regional Commission, Area Agency on Aging at (470) 378-1490.

SFMNP runs from June 1 — September 30, 2018

“I think the picture is changing: there are more seniors needing financial assistance in some way, whether it’s with food or housing.”
