Flavor of Georgia Winner Opens Scoop Shop in East Atlanta

Revolution Gelato opens July 1, launches partnership with Wholesome Wave Georgia

ATLANTA: Revolution Gelato’s award-winning dairy free gelato will now be available permanently at East Atlanta Village’s Global Grub Collective, located at 477 Flat Shoals Ave SE. The company’s brick-and-mortar location opens Friday, July 1 and will be open daily (Sun.-Tue. 12-9p.m., Fri.-Sat. 12-10 p.m.).

Revolution Gelato has also announced a new partnership with Wholesome Wave Georgia (WWG), a non-profit whose vision is to increase access to fresh, healthy, locally grown food for all Georgians. To celebrate the launch of both the store and the partnership, Revolution will donate 50 percent of revenues from the opening weekend, with an additional 3 percent of all future store revenues going to the Georgia non-profit.

According to Sara Berney, Executive Director of WWG, this will be the organization’s first partnership that includes an ongoing, fixed donation commitment. “Revolution Gelato’s commitment to strengthening the local food system made this partnership an obvious choice. Through our partnership, every time a family makes a purchase with Revolution Gelato, they will also be supporting Georgia’s food insecure families and farmers.”

“A big part of the reason we exist is to help fundamentally improve the food system,” added Jared Olkin, founder of Revolution Gelato, “and Wholesome Wave’s focus on increasing accessibility to good, wholesome, local food ties perfectly into that mission.”

The shop will take over the stall currently occupied by Le Metro Creperie, which is closing at the end of June. The opening menu will feature six flavors, including the brand’s Nekkid Espresso that took home first place in the 2016 Flavor of Georgia competition’s dairy category. All of the flavors and toppings will be dairy-free, vegan, and mostly organic.

At the new location, the brother-and-sister team is looking forward to growing their audience and connecting with Atlanta residents on a daily basis. Leah Sitkin, VP of Retail Operations, explained the motivation behind moving into a retail space, “We’re excited to have the opportunity to test flavors, get feedback, and create a lasting and impactful connection with our hometown customers.”

About Wholesome Wave Georgia: Wholesome Wave Georgia believes that all Georgians should have access to fresh, wholesome and locally grown food. Our mission is to strengthen local food communities by empowering networks of farmers to facilitate access to and awareness of healthy food choices. In 2009, WWG launched as a state-wide chapter of Wholesome Wave National’s Double Value Coupon Program to double federal nutrition assistance benefits (Food Stamps, WIC/Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Vouchers) at Georgia’s farmers markets. WWG has grown from three partner farmers markets in 2009 to a network of 45 markets and direct-marketing farms in 2016 and has provided over $1.5 million in healthy food to Georgia’s FNA recipients and $1.5 million in revenue for local farmers.
