NATIONAL FARMERS MARKET WEEK SPECIAL REPORT: INTERVIEW WITH NANCY QARMOUT OF THE TUCKER FARMERS market in TUCKER, georgia.

Located in one of Atlanta’s newest city additions, Tucker Farmers Market is a great market to visit to find fresh veggies, local art, and live music every Thursday. Run by Tucker small business owners Nancy Qarmout and Leanne O’Rear, the market is dedicated to supporting small, local businesses and independent producers like themselves while creating a sense of community between vendors and their customers. TFM accepts and doubles the value of Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers through a special WWG pilot in conjunction with the Atlanta Regional Commission and Georgia Department of Public Health.

Wholesome Wave Georgia: To what do you attribute your market’s success?

Nancy Qarmout: A fun vibe and broad community support.

WWG: Name a program or initiative that makes your market unique

NQ: We focus on the local community in as many ways as we can: vendors, music, activities, and events.

WWG: Tell us the history of your market

NQ: We started the market in the spring of 2012 based on an observed need.

WWG: What is one unique thing you can find/buy at your market?

NQ: Straight From the Backyard Garden is one of our customers' favorite farmers. Lynn and Mark produce a huge variety of fruits and vegetables throughout the year and customers are always excited to see Lynn and see what she's offering from week to week. You also don't want to miss our soap vendor, Cassie, who makes Cheeky Maiden soaps right in Tucker.
